Our God is faithful, when we are faithless. He is trustworthy, when all else fails. And God is coming back to rescue his people. He said he would. And He will do it. Part 3 in our “Good and Beautiful God” Series.

The Holy Spirit is a person. The Holy Spirit means presence. The Holy Spirit means power. And the Holy Spirit is a producer. In this series, we explore what it means to have access to this present strength. In this first lesson, we see that being plunged in God’s Spirit or receiving God’s Spirit means to be in the presence of God and for God’s presence to always be with us.

We sing it. We read it. But do we believe it? When we claim God is “good,” what do we mean by it? In this lesson, I explore goodness as where justice and mercy meet. Justice is coming (which is good news for the oppressed), but God through Christ has willingly bore the penalty of the oppressor, and wants every one at His table. Ultimate justice and unfathomable mercy meet in our God. Part 2 of our “Good and Beautiful God” series.

We dive into Mark chapter 1, beginning with an announcement that would get you killed! Daring to claim the good news is that another king has arrived; the good news is not about Caesar, but Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Before God’s Spirit can build us up in the fruit of love, joy, and peace, he must first break us down–whether our problem is the self-assured pride of will-worship, or the careless disregard for how we conduct our lives. God sows the seed, but God also tills the soil. And he can do remarkable things if we will let Him.

Close your eyes. Picture God. What do you see? Now focus on the emotions welling up inside you. What do you feel? Where did that image and those emotions originate? How you view God determines how you see yourself and everything else in the world. It might be time for new lenses. Lesson 1 in the series “A Good and Beautiful God.”

Baptism imitates the example of our Lord. It symbolizes our answer to the greatest commandment. It demonstrates the gospel. It is a uniting event. And it marks a crossing over, an exodus, out of slavery to self and into the freedom of God’s gracious kingdom of love. But like every story in scripture, it’s only significant because Jesus Christ meets us there. Follow him to the water. Call upon him in the water. Be buried with him in the water. And trust in his grace to rescue you from every troubled water.
